What does Homesteading mean to you?
In a world of constant news, evolving technology and divisive opinions, it can be hard to take a step back and find pause in our day to day lives. We live in a world that’s forgotten the importance of neighbors, and the treasured friendships that can be created by community. We get lost in the hustle and bustle of work, kids and running our families.
It may seem that “homesteading” has become the new trend. But in fact it has not. It’s not a trend at all, but rather has always been here. It’s a nod to our history, ancestors, and a way for us to feel more connected. Some crave a means to disconnect from our 21st century narrative, and means to create a moment of simplicity in their lives. Some love to see the fruits of their labor in a physical sense, by creating lush gardens, or raising an animal from birth. Others have created unshakeable bonds with an animal that brings them utter and simple joy.
There is no right or wrong.
There are no have to’s, should’s or need to’s.
There are no political sides in the homesteading.
There is simply joy and fulfillment in the creation of something.
Which is why I think so many are drawn to this way of living. It’s a chance to do what gets you excited, or something that you think would improve you or your family’s way of life. it’s a chance to experiment, fail, try again, and create an outcome even better than your first.
Homesteading is really a “choose your own destiny” kind of game. What starts as an idea or dream, grows and brings fulfillment to some more than they ever thought possible. It opens doors, provides new perspectives and sheds light on a different way of doing things that we may have never thought of.
No matter your why, your goals or how you get there, the most important part is that you open yourself up to the opportunity, and the spark that inspired you to consider doing it. Stay curious, stay learning, and simply start somewhere.
